Let's get Gripspeak onto your Steam Frame.
About five minutes in the headset. Keep this page open: you'll come back to it once, to enter a 6-digit code, so you never type a long key in VR.
-
Put on your headset and open the desktop
Gripspeak installs in desktop mode, which shows your Frame's desktop as a big floating screen.
-
Open Chromium and go to
gripspeak.com
Click the browser in the taskbar, then the address bar; the keyboard opens. That's the only typing in the whole setup. No browser yet? Click Install Chromium on the desktop first.

Follow the steps on that page
The same steps are shown in the headset. Here's what each screen looks like there, with the thing to click highlighted.

Back here: enter the code from your headset
The tour's Activate step shows 6 digits. Enter them below with the download link from your itch.io purchase email.
In the email from itch.io, press and hold the download link, then Copy link. Lost it? On the Gripspeak itch.io page choose Buy Now, then “I already paid for this…”.
Done. Look in your headset.Gripspeak activates there in a few seconds and the tour carries on. You can close this page.
Good to know
Don't run the installer on this phone or computer
The file from itch.io only works inside the Steam Frame. Downloading it here does no harm, but it won't do anything.
Bought it without an itch.io account?
That's fine. Your purchase email has the download link; that link is all you need. You can ignore itch.io's "link this purchase to an account" box.
Rather do it all in the headset?
In the tour you can also sign in to itch.io, or paste your download link there. The code is just the way with no VR typing.
Install Gripspeak in five steps.
Bought on itch.io? Its download is the same file.
If Chromium says the file may be dangerous, choose Keep. It says that about every Linux installer from a site you haven't visited before.
The windows below will cover this page. That's fine: here's everything first.

Wait about two minutes
A black window installs Gripspeak and downloads its speech model (about 480 MB). Then the setup tour opens by itself and this window closes.

Activate in the tour
The tour shows a 6-digit code. On your phone, open gripspeak.com/link and enter it with the link from your purchase email. Or sign in to itch.io right there in the tour.
Something look different?
A window asks which app to open it with, or the installer opens as text
That's the browser's "Open". Close it, then use the folder in the taskbar → Downloads → double-click Install-Gripspeak (step 1).
Chromium warns the file may be dangerous
Choose Keep. Chromium warns about every Linux installer (a .desktop file) unless you visited the site before today. If you chose Discard or Delete, click Download above again.
I clicked Continue and nothing happened
The black install window may be behind other windows. Look for it in the taskbar, or give it a few seconds.
I can't find the file in Downloads
Click Download above again and wait for it to finish. It's called Install-Gripspeak.desktop, from here or from itch.io.
The black window shows red text
Something stopped the install, and the reason is in that window. It stays open until you press Enter. Use Help in this page's footer to tell us what it says.
I closed the tour by accident
Open Gripspeak from the app menu. The tour picks up where you left off.
